To allow participation by as many units as possible, units will only be allowed to have multiple teams participate in one event. If space is available, sign-ups for these “B Teams” as well as signing up for any unfilled slots, will be allowed on Friday, Feb. 9.
Tournaments are open to all participants. Block scheduling is to be used to allow teams to plan to participate in other events at Winterfest. Units will be given a starting time for their first game no later than 8:00 AM Saturday. To allow participation by as many units as possible, units will only be allowed to have multiple teams participate in one event if space is available. Sign-ups for these “B Teams” as well as signing up for any unfilled slots at events, will be on Friday.
Tournaments are single elimination. Bowling will take place hourly throughout the day. Cornhole, Volleyball, and Ultimate will be played in the morning. Dodge Ball and Basketball will be in the afternoon. Cornhole, Ultimate, Volleyball, Dodgeball and Basketball are bracketed events. Winners in each stage will advance to later rounds until a champion is determined. Winning teams will be expected to be present and ready to play at the next scheduled round. Those fortunate enough to make it to the finals should plan on staying at the venue the entire morning or afternoon.
Each tournament event will have a maximum time limit to be played and is determined based on the number of teams and space availability. If a game has not been decided by usual scoring, the team with the most points at the end of the time limit is the winner. In the event of a tie, a coin toss will determine the winner.
To ensure a smooth tournament, we request that units arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their starting time for each game. A team forfeits the game if they are more than 5 minutes late to their allocated time slot. Traffic through Gatlinburg can be heavy. When selecting events, plan on a MINIMUM of 45 minutes travel time between venues located away from the Convention Center.
Any post, crew, ship, team, or troop that enters a tournament must contribute one adult leader to assist with judging and scorekeeping during each game played by their team.
The registration deadline is February 2, 2018. You must pre-register for the conference, select your events, and be paid in full to be eligible to compete.
Wristbands will be provided at check-in and will be checked at each competition site.
